We all know what books can do for us.
But how to start. How to get your groove on. And will you even end it?
No matter how Amazon Audible Audiobooks fascinates many of us, the joy and pain with reading books still linger on. Talking about audiobooks, you can give an Audible Membership as a gift to a friend or a loved one.
In fact, even the so-called avid book lovers hated it at first.
They only grew to love it. I may be wrong but the truth hurts. Isn’t?
As they say, there is a book in everyone. Of course, there’s a book on any topic under this planet.
Glad to add that there may be an audiobook for every book.
And when it comes to audiobooks, look no further than Amazon’s own Audible audiobooks.
Why listen to Audible Audiobooks?
Why read at all?
Why we read:
- To learn
- To escape
- To fall in love
- To be inspired
- To be tolerant
- To learn to write
- To learn to think
- To stay teachable
- To dare to dream
- To gain courage
- To validate beliefs
- To find new ideas
- To stretch our mind
- To know we are not alone
These and many other factors are the reasons why we read. And audiobooks are no exception. It rather exposes us to new perspectives in our quest to acquire knowledge.
“If you encounter a man of rare intellect you should ask him what books he reads” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I love listening to audiobooks.
So you may be asking, “What is the difference between a printed or hardcover book and an audiobook”
Whenever I share my passion, enthusiasm, and preference for Audible audiobooks with my friends and book lovers – I get this straight-look, curious-face from them.
It’s either one of rejoicing or the begging “help me understand” question.
“That’s not really reading, is it?” or
“I don’t listen to audiobooks because books are meant to be printed to be read.”
Listening to books is certainly different from reading printed books, but is it not as strange as many think?
So the question is, “Does listening to audiobooks count as reading?”.
Yes, of course!
So what entails reading at all?
I suppose the answer to this question must come from one’s own definition of reading.
What is reading?
If the act of reading is understanding the content of a story or a theme, then audiobooks certainly is another form of reading.
Moreover, understanding the message behind the story, thinking critically about the content, making meaningful connections is at the heart of being a book lover.
WestEd conducted randomized controlled trial research on the use of Tales2go – an audiobook app in San Francisco Bay Area (US). The study was designed to determine the effectiveness of adding a listening component to literacy instruction.
Results of the study were noteworthy, indicating Tales2go is an effective and promising literacy tool.
For me, the most important part of the study is that the researchers only focused on just listening to the audio, with no follow-along-in-the-book or other reading intervention like understanding the content.
The impact of purely listening to audiobooks is revealing and striking.
The Effect of Amazon Audible audiobooks compared to other reading formats
Generally, books come in various formats – print, eBook, and audio.
Each version has its own strengths and weaknesses.
Let’s take look at books from its proper perspective.
Printed books are ideal for browsing through, long-term desk reference and for people who wants to brag about reading a book “most people barely read them.“
Ebook is ideal for reviewing ideas and concepts on the go. Amazon Kindle Unlimited provides 1000’s of free e-books to book lovers.
It’s like a one-time setting of your favourite James Bond, Agya Koo, or Lil Wayne movie.
For a descriptive example; let’s say a roundup of a movie series with your favourite homemade popcorn.
An audiobook is ideal for completing the entire book and in record time.
Think of it as a low-cost business course that you can take over and over again.
Listening to Amazon Audible audiobooks is a quick way to read more without rearranging your schedule.
You’ve probably heard many reviews on the benefit of Audible. Wait and listen to mine. You’ll be astounded.
I’m not encouraging multitasking here, don’t want to wade into that debate of whether it’s good or bad.
However, for maximum productivity listening to an Audible title while doing manual day-to-day tasks is a great way to start.
If you’re going for a run, doing dishes, or browsing for new website ideas like I do, there’s no reason you shouldn’t occupy your mind and learn something useful by listening to an Amazon Audible audiobook.
What are your goals?
Set realistic and achievable goals.
Listening to books is an easy and inexpensive way to optimize your time and increase your overall productivity.
It’s my fuel whenever I go to the gym.
It makes me look dumb when I’m commuting. And above all, I look crazy when I start to laugh and jump when walking down the street.

Why you should start enjoying Amazon Audible audiobooks Now! My Story
About a decade ago when I started flirting with Amazon.com even though it was alien to most Ghanaians then and even now, my love for books heightened.
Then, I was only glancing through its beautiful catalog of the product on various Amazon pages. I never knew I would be a customer soon.
One fascinating thing about Amazon is their reverence for product reviews because they know how quality reviews serve as social proof for buying decisions.
What about a quick look at Robert’s new much talked about book “Pre-suasion”
Amazon is synonymous with books and therefore it’s subsidiary “Audible” audiobook reviews will be your secret source to an awesome reading experience.
As at then, I didn’t have the purchasing power and even if I had, Amazon wouldn’t ship to my country.
I’ve seen and heard a number of websites working hard to make this a simple reality. Kudos to them all.
So, I only fantasized about great books recommended by millionaire and billionaires and only hoped for a better tomorrow.
Until I stumbled on Audible.com – a subsidiary of amazon.com. Audible specializing in providing books in audio format to book lovers on the Amazon platform.
“My response was one of great joy for a better tomorrow”
In fact, why face the same problems and challenges while you can go to school on other people’s experiences?
That is a multi-million dollar question, you and I need to ask ourselves each day.
I’ve been an Amazon Prime Member for a number of years now, and it’s one of the best services I use from time-to-time.
A large percentage of my recommended reading list is available on the service.
It is by far the best option when it comes to listening to audiobooks.
In addition, fiction and nonfiction audiobooks are a very cost-efficient form of entertainment. I’ve listened to several books recommended by awesome achievers, influencers, and entrepreneurs.
And I’ve never regretted doing so.
This is the main reason why I stopped listening to the radio.
Don’t even have time for that anymore.
It’s either a podcast or an Amazon Audible audiobook.
Did I mention podcasts?
I’ll talk about my experience with podcasts and how it changed my outlook on life in another post.
Oh my God – sorry, word!
And it is free.

For me though, the biggest benefit of audiobooks and for that matter, my continuous subscription on Audible is the fact that every month I can get basically any book I want with my $14.5/month subscription – even if it would otherwise be a $45 book if I had bought it separately.
And that 14.95/month, hmmm…
That is approximately 60cedis and some coins for my Ghanaian brethren.
Just look at that.
The cost-benefit analysis is real.
Until then, starting with a reading list of recommended books may be all you need.
Don’t stress it.
Enjoy what others have enjoyed over the years. There is a reason why people love specific books.
It’s not by chance.
Disclaimer: I obviously have a commercial relationship with Audible in affiliate commission, since they sell books, and I also love and buy books. That is a no-brainer. No strings attached.
